Legend has it that after the hangings these bodies were then buried in un-consecrated land near the crossroads as a warning to those who would be tempted to commit the same hideous crimes themselves.Īlong with these hangings there is also the tale of King Charles II who famously visited the building on the 3rd September 1651. It is alleged that the criminals were held in either one or both of the cellars overnight before being dragged outside and maliciously hung until dead at the rear of the building, which is now where the beer garden and lounge areas are after extensive refurbishing. The structure was built on a crossroads in the centre of Bromsgrove and is said to have originally been a place of public executions.
